A Moment of Silence for St. Petersburg

While at the hot springs resort two weekends ago, my Russian friends received news that there was a bombing in St. Petersburg, Russia. This city is where my friends' school is located. The bombing occurred in the subways of St. Petersburg and was during a time when class ends and many students and faculty are traveling home.

According to news reports, 14 people were killed in this bombing and dozens were severely injured. The motive of the attacker is uncertain right now. It is known that it was a suicide bombing; however, it is unclear whether it was a terrorist attack. It is believed that it could have been an ISIS attack because the bomber was from an area with a high population of Muslims.

Fortunately, all of the Russian students' family members and close friends were reported as okay. However, some of the teachers that the students know were injured. In class, we had a minute of silence for those in St. Petersburg.

It is a very scary thing to think about: terrorist attacks and bombings. I can only imagine how upset the students felt when they heard the news. I pray that I never have to experience such an awful occurrence involving people I know.
